Christmas is over. In fact, it's New Year's Day. Christmas makes me homesick for New Mexico. Not especially for family or friends, but for Santa Fe, the mountains there, and the snow and sun during the short days and luminarias at night. There's something magical about the combination of adobe and candlelight and snow. Anyone who has ever been homesick may understand the inability to express the "why" of yearning. It's impossible to convey to another person why the feeling of longing, the smells and the sights, the colors, the feel, the feel, the feel.... I rarely feel "homesick". But the sight of luminarias and adobe in the winter does it to me every time.
I'm thankful I was able to visit New Mexico twice last year. Each trip back adds to the complexity of my feelings for the place.
